How To Add A Stop From Uber Driver App
Uber allows passengers to add multiple stops to a trip, up to 5 stops. Multiple stops make it much easy to pick up and drop off friends, or do a round trip. Uber drivers can wait up to 3 minutes at each stop, so make your stops quick!
There are a few tricks to using the multiple stops feature, so read on to learn the ins-and-outs. If you use this feature correctly, your Ubers will be cheaper and you'll be able to do a round trip using only one Uber ride.
How to Add Multiple Stops to an Uber Trip
To add more than one stop to your Uber trip, start on the Home screen and tap the "Where to?" box, then tap the plus (+) sign next to the text entry box. You can add up to 5 stops. If you make a mistake, tap the X next to a stop to remove it.
Uber used to allow only 3 stops, but they increased the number of stops to 5 in 2021.
How to Add a Stop after Your Trip Has Started
You may need to add another stop mid trip if something comes up. During your trip, tap on the driver's info box at the bottom of the screen, then in the 'Your current trip' area tap "Add or Change" to add another stop or change your destination.
The cost of your ride may change if additional stops add significant mileage or time.
How to Take a Round Trip in an Uber
Adding multiple stops makes it possible to do a round trip in an Uber.
- On the Home screen, tap the 'Where To?' text box
- Enter the location of the errand in the second row
- Tap the + sign next to the second row and add your original location as the final stop
With this method, you'll be able to do a round-trip without losing your driver. Just make sure the stops take less than 3 minutes. If your driver ends the trip because you took longer than 3 minutes, request a second Uber and understand that it's not the driver's fault.
Why use this method? If you only add one stop — the location of your errand — there's a high chance that the driver will get another request and end the ride right as you're getting close to the stop, which would force you to request a second ride. Two rides is almost always more expensive than one.
Use Multiple Stops to:
- Pick up or drop off a friend
- Drop off a pre-paid letter or package at a mailbox or shipping store
- Quickly visit a store to pick up one or two items
- Do a quick round trip
Don't Use Multiple Stops to Do This:
- A grocery store trip to stock up on a few days of supplies
- Order food at a long drive-thru line
- Any bank errand other than using the ATM
- Any errand that takes longer than 3 minutes
You Can't Do Multiple Stops in an Uber Pool
Uber Pool trips don't allow you to add multiple stops, so if you need multiple stops you'll need to request an Uber X, or another Uber service.
